Jeremiah Patrick "Jerry" Ryan

Jeremiah Patrick Ryan, or "Jerry" as he was known to all, died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. He was 73.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Janet Ryan; his daughter, Erin Vieira and her husband Joshua; his granddaughter, Madison Vieira; his siblings, Katherine Banville, Anne Ryan, Thomas Moore and George Moore; and his nephews, Steven Banville and Patrick Moore.
Born in New York City, Jerry started life out in the Bronx, in the shadow of Yankee Stadium. Moving to Ogdensburg, NJ, as a teenager, he went on to earn his BA in Social Science from William Paterson University in Wayne.
While a student at William Paterson, Jerry met Janet Kozibroda at a dance. The two married in 1971, and shortly thereafter, Jerry was drafted to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War. Thankfully, he was stationed in Germany, and his new bride was able to accompany him oversees. While it was not how they imagined the early days of their marriage, it was an adventure they would never forget, and Jerry was always proud to have served his country.
Returning to the states, Jerry and Janet settled in Garfield, where they raised a daughter, Erin.
Jerry held a long career in financial management, and most recently was with Undertone Financial in New York City. He retired in 2018.
Jerry and Janet welcomed a granddaughter, Madison, in 2014. Jerry loved doting on Madison, and the two loved to cheer on his beloved NY Yankees together. She also inherited Jerry's love of horror films and the Jersey Shore.
Jerry was an outgoing, friendly man who knew how to make everyone smile. He was never shy around strangers, and was always quick to make friends. He was a proud American, and proud of his family. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial Mass will be held 11 am Tuesday, April 26th at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Cremation was held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory to the Family and Friends for Freedom Fund, 40 Woodland Place, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
