Jerome Harris Obituary
Jerome Harris, born on March 5, 1955, in Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his hometown on November 13, 2025, at the remarkable age of 70 years. His long and fulfilling life was marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
A native of Wilmington, Jerome graduated from Hoggard High School in 1974, continuing his education at Cape Fear Community College. He embarked on a varied career, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment through his roles at DuPont in Leland, North Carolina, and as a member of the traveling maintenance group for Carolina Power and Light Company. Jerome further contributed his skills to Corning in Wilmington and eventually retired from Lowes Home Improvement, also in Wilmington.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jerome was a man of many passions. A talented and competitive tennis player, he embraced the spirit of the sport with vigor. He found joy and tranquility in fishing, clamming, and crabbing, relishing the moments spent near the waterways, sounds, and creeks of Sea Breeze.
His unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life. Jerome was a faithful and dedicated Christian, worshipping at New Covenant Church before becoming a cherished member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington.
Jerome was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Howard Harris, Sr., and Rosa Bell Sykes Harris. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Tiffany Harris-Abdullah of Morrisville, North Carolina; his adored granddaughter, Laila Abdullah; brothers Bishop Howard Harris, Jr., and wife Adelina, David Harris, and Stanley Harris; sisters Wanda McKoy and Phyllis Nesbitt and husband Bishop Tommy Nesbitt. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at The Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The service will be led by his brother, Bishop Howard Harris, Jr. honoring a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure through the lives of all he touched.
Jerome's enduring love for family, faith, and the simple pleasures of life will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
