Jerome David James, 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away on April 8, 2025, following a period of declining health due to dementia.

Born on August 13, 1951, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Daniel and Lenora James. Jerome spent his childhood and early adulthood in New Jersey and Akron before moving to the Tuscarawas Valley after marrying his wife, Lori, on June 8, 2002.

Jerome will be fondly remembered for his love of Gospel and Rat Pack music, his passion for dancing to the rhythm, and his vibrant, colorful outfits that he proudly wore on stage. Whether performing in a church sanctuary, on a stage, or on a parade float, he was a natural entertainer, and his joy for music resonated with everyone around him. Jerome was also an avid Cleveland Cavaliers and Lebron James fan.

Beyond his musical talents, Jerome cherished spending time with his family, whether at a family picnic or attending his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. His faith was deeply rooted at the First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a devoted member.

He will be deeply missed by his family including his wife, the former Lori A. Eick; his sons, Jerome James, Jr., Daniel (Emily) James, Brandon (Cheryl) Beitzel and Josh Beitzel; his grandchildren, Layla James, Nyasia James, Jerod James, Jordyn James, and Piper and Myles Beitzel; his siblings, Frederick (Grace) James, Gerald (Mae) James, Debra Brown and Larry James; his parents-in-law, Edgar and Cheryl Eick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in passing by his siblings, Daniel, Michael, Leroy, Ronald, Curtis James, Maxine Brown, Elaine James, and Valerie Wood.

A memorial service will be held in the First Church of the Nazarene on Monday, April 14, 2025 beginning at 6 p.m., with guests welcome to come any time after 5 pm to sit and listen to a recording of Jerome singing prior to the start of the service. An informal gathering with his family will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
