Jerome "Jerry" Kemp Sr.

Jerome (Jerry) Kemp Sr., age 88, of Massillon, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025 He was born August 25, 1936, in Massillon, the son of the late Fredrick and Helen (Martin) Kemp. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict and on the BB62 USS New Jersey in the Arctic Circle. Jerry had worked as a meat cutter at Superior Meats. He later worked for St. Mary's Catholic Church for 25 years. He was a member of Divine Mercy St. Mary's Catholic Church, K of C Council #554, 3rd Degree, and enjoyed cigars. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and the Green Bay Packers. Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jerome Jr. and Christine Kemp, son Joseph F. Kemp, daughter and son-in-law Anne M. and John R. Schiller; sister, Evelyn "Toots" Kemp Chouris; grandchildren, Jerome J. Kemp III, Tara Schiller-Peterhansen, Briana Kistler, Cortney Hansen, Kolby Kemp, and Jacob Kemp; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolanne (Eberhardt) Kemp who died in 2017, three sisters and three brothers. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - MASSILLON CHAPEL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Divine Mercy/St. Mary's Campus with Fr. Travis Seagraves celebrant. Burial to follow the service at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans.
