Lent, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025 at the age of 88. Jerry was reunited with Ruth, his beloved wife of 67 years. He was the loving father of Pamela (Daniel) McKay, Daniel (Jane) Lent, and Kathryn ”Katie” (Todd Hanson) Lent; proud grandfather to Julie McKay, Lindsey (Kyle) Joseph, Daniel (Maren) McKay, Thomas (Ashley) Welch, Lauren (Reggie) Bell, Sara Welch (Ben Nackel), and Nicole Welch; great grandfather to Elliana Joseph, Raelynn Joseph, Cayden Bell, and Avery Bell. He is further survived by loved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a plank owner on the U.S.S. Saratoga. His sense of duty and dedication to service were evident during his time in the military.
Following his military service, Jerry dedicated his professional life to education within the Greendale School System. He began his career as a teacher, where he influenced countless students through his commitment and passion for learning. Jerry’s leadership abilities led him to advance to the role of principal, and he later continued to serve the school community as an assistant superintendent. His impact on education and the lives of those he worked with was profound and lasting.
Family was very important to Jerry. He loved spending time with them and was very proud of their accomplishments. Jerry also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He led his local computer club and cherished his golden retrievers. Throughout his time in Greendale, he considered the church St. Thomas of Canterbury to be his foundation.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the VA Hospital and St. Thomas of Canterbury for the impact they've made in his later years.
Visitation will be held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church (7255 W. Grange Ave., Greendale) on Friday, December 19th from 9:30-10:45AM with the funeral service at 11AM.
