Jerome "Jerry" James Troke Sr., age 85 of Chesterton, IN passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 in Valparaiso, IN. He was born on August 19, 1936 in Gary, IN to Howard and Frances (Styba) Troke.
Jerome is survived by his sons, Jerry (Sue) Troke Jr., Steven Troke, Joseph (Mary) Troke; daughter, Wendy Troke; grandsons, Jeremy Troke, Christopher Troke, Benjamin Troke, Daniel Troke, Michael Ohm; granddaughters, Jennifer Neubert, Joanna Vanderzee, Jacqueline Watkins, Colleen Haynes, Nichole Snyder, Melanie Duncan, Julia Ohm; 14 great-grandchildren; and also dearly loved by Margaret's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Troke; father, Howard Troke; first wife of 34 years, Melanie Troke; second wife of 23 years, Margaret Troke.
Jerome was a lifelong resident of Chesterton and graduated in 1954. He then married his high school sweetheart, Melanie, and enlisted in the US Navy serving for 2 years active duty at Norfolk. He served another 2 years in the Naval Reserves. After returning to Chesterton, he began a 34 year career at NIPSCO, starting in plant operations and working his way to Superintendent of Field Outage Coordination. Jerome was the world's best Mr. Fix-it Man. He exemplified the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Jerome's greatest joy was being with family. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Chesterton Cemetery, 300 E. Porter Avenue, Chesterton, IN 46304. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com.
