Jerome "Jerry" Weigel

Funeral services for Jerome B. "Jerry" Weigel, 80, Aberdeen, are 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 24, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Burial at Riverside Memorial Park with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith Post 24. Jerry died Sunday, January 19 at ManorCare Health Services, Aberdeen. Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 p.m., with family present 5:00-7:00 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Jerome B. "Jerry" Weigel was born August 25, 1933 to Ben F. and Helen (Senger) Weigel in Ridgeview, SD. He was raised in rural Ipswich, SD until 1948 when the family moved to Aberdeen. Jerry graduated from Aberdeen Central High in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was united in marriage to Arlowine Ann "Patsy" Evans on May 28, 1957. They lived in Aberdeen since that time. In 1962, Jerry went to work as an electrician for Don Harry Electric. In 1974, he started JB Electric repairing and selling electric motors, pumps, and power tools. In 1976, Jerry began working for Plainsco, now Dakota Supply Group in Aberdeen; a career that continued until his retirement in 2013. In 1996, he opened Jerry's MinnKota Sales and Service, repairing and selling electric trolling motors for area fishermen. He operated the business through 2013. He was active in the Aberdeen Hockey Association from 1970 to 1983, as his sons were growing up. His family, children, and grandchildren were always his first priority. He was a member of the Northeastern SD Walleye Club, the Sportsmans Club of Brown County, and NARFE. Grateful for having shared Jerry's life are his wife Patsy of Aberdeen, three sons, Don (Carole) Weigel and children Brittany Smart, and Don Jr. and Ryan Weigel, Aberdeen; Tim (Jodi) Weigel and daughter Merisa Weigel, Aberdeen; Steve (Lori) Weigel and daughters Morgan and Anna Weigel, Lodi, CA; a great grandson Preston Brake, Aberdeen, one sister Sylvia Rott, Leola, SD; a sister-in-law, Vicki Weigel, Aberdeen; two brothers Francis(Betty) Weigel, Aberdeen, Ray Weigel, Turlock, CA; a special sister-in-law, Beverly Angerhofer, Vermillion, SD, a step-mother Clara Weigel, Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Victor Weigel, Sr. The family suggests memorials in his memory be sent to Camp DreamMakers c/o Aberdeen Family YMCA, SPURS Riding Center, Aberdeen, or to SD Special Olympics.
