Geraldine Akin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2026.
Dateline: McKenzie, TN

Funeral services for Jerrie Akin are on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Interment will follow at Carroll Memorial Gardens.

Jerrie Akin, born on December 13, 1939, to Moody Quay Faust and Verla Mae Blackard Faust in Etta, Mississippi, lived a life filled with love, resilience, and devotion to her family and friends. Given the name Geraldine at birth, she was affectionately known as Jerrie. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where Jerrie attended Memphis Tech High School, before relocating to McKenzie with her family in 1958.

In 1960, Jerrie married Larry Joe Foster, raising two daughters, Rita Jo and Dixie Lynn. After Larry's passing in 1987, she found love again and married Douglas Akin, who remained by her side. She worked at Wilker Brothers and Brown Shoe Company in McKenzie, where she forged many lifelong friendships. She seized the opportunity to pursue her dream of becoming a beautician. After completing cosmetology school, she opened her own shop in her home in 1990, where she built a loyal clientele who became cherished friends even after her retirement.

Faith was a cornerstone of Jerrie's life. She was a dedicated member of Concord Baptist Church before moving her membership to First Baptist Church in McKenzie in 1976. Jerrie is survived by her loving husband, Doug Akin; daughters, Rita Jo Cole and Dixie Lynn Yakes; son, Dana Akin (Saudia); grandchildren, Amber Suddath (Justin), Allan Akin (Vincent), Alec Akin (Colby), Brad Stafford, Chris Wall (Becky); and great-grandchildren, Kenlee Suddath, Cooper Suddath, Case Wall, Cord Wall, Grayson Akin, and Hadley Mae Akin. She also leaves behind her sisters, Judy Smith of Gallatin, TN, and Brenda Sinquefield of Hernando, MS.

Jerrie was preceded in death by her sisters, Lene Watson, Barbara Wood, and Rachel Derosett, as well as her sons-in-law, Danny Cole and Paul Yakes. She will be remembered for her warmth, unwavering spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
