Jerrold William Goodman, Ph.D., 84, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 4, 1941 to Thomas Robert Goodman and Ruth Legum Goodman. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judy Ann Lipkin Goodman, and his children: Tracy and Scott Gladstone and their children, Benjamin (Raizel), Sarah (Sam) and Joshua, and Mindy and Andy Maidman and their children, Molly, Sam (Jessica), Adam and Hannah.
Jerry was a committed clinical psychologist who worked for his entire life, to the day he died, because of his deep dedication to his patients. He received his B.A. from Brandeis University in 1963, his M.S. from the University of Oklahoma in 1965, and his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1969. Jerry was also a leader in his local community. He was the “chief” of his building for years and a confidant to many. He always had the ability to build consensus, bringing people together across differences.
Jerry was a warm, patient, welcoming man (with a tendency to stick out his tongue when focused). He enjoyed the theater, the arts, food and fine wine, and travel. He was an enthusiastic shopper and appreciator of hats. He will be remembered for his gentleness and his easy laugh, and for his nearly extinguished southern accent. Most of all, Jerry was simply the very best, most loving and supportive husband and dad, and a devoted Papa to his seven beloved grandchildren.
