Jerry Aune Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Better Place Funeral & Cremation Services on Jan. 22, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Phillip Aune, who departed this world peacefully at home on January 20, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on December 24, 1934, in Bagley, Minnesota, to Palmer and Pauline Aune, he lived a life filled with love, hard work and passion, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know him.

On March 6, 1954, Jerry married the love of his life, Joanne Hanson. Their marriage spanned an incredible 71 years, marked by dedication and commitment. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Randy (Tobi) Aune; grandchildren, Heather, Jessica, Jennifer and Sarah; Roby Aune; Becky Bates; grandchildren, Jasmine and Jeremy; Allison (Todd) Needler; grandchildren, Joshua and Kaitlyn, who brought him immense joy and pride. Jerry's legacy is carried on by his loving wife Joanne, his children and grandchildren, who will forever hold memories of their grandfather in their hearts. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

As a young man, Jerry embarked on a career that reflected his adventurous spirit. He sailed the Great Lakes aboard the Isaac L. Ellwood before settling into the construction industry. His remarkable work ethic and leadership skills quickly led him to become a Construction Superintendent, where he oversaw numerous projects from the Midwest to the West Coast. Jerry's craftsmanship and attention to detail were unmatched, earning a reputation for his diligence, expertise, and leadership. His work was not merely a job but a testament to his commitment to quality and workmanship.

Jerry was not only a diligent worker but also a man of many interests. He had a profound love for steam locomotives and muscle cars, often sharing his knowledge and passion for these remarkable machines with family and friends. Woodworking was another avenue through which he expressed his creativity, crafting items that brought beauty into the lives of those around him. His collection of various items, curated over the years, served as a testament to his inquisitive nature and love for history. He had an unmatched talent for storytelling, captivating listeners with tales from his youth, lessons learned, and the adventures he embarked upon with his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his siblings, Alvira Esterholm, Bruce Aune, Claudia Bennett, and Ada Lacoursiere-Byram, who share in the loss of a treasured brother. His family and friends will remember him not only for his accomplishments but for his generous spirit and kind heart.

A private celebration of Jerry's life will be held on February 7, 2026, for immediate family, allowing them to honor the profound impact he had on their lives.

Jerry's journey may have come to an end, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace, and we will carry his memory forward with gratitude, love and honor.

Rest in peace, Jerry. You will be dearly missed, but your love will continue to shine brightly in our lives.

I remember brother Jerry from when I was a little girl. One of my favorite memories is when he came home from work one day and he held my hand and squirted Reddi Whip on my hand and told me to eat it and it was good.
So the next time Mom gave me a bath and there were bubbles in it. So I swooped it up and ate it. I quickly spit it out and got sick. I was only 2 or so and I have been remembering that for 70+ years.
But I want to tell you Jerry that I've loved you all along! Rest in peace my brother!
