Jerry Ronald Baker

Baker, Jerry Ronald, December 19, 2019, Age 84. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee O'Donnell). Loving father of Shelley Baker (Michael Buchanan), Scott Baker (Lori Cobb) and Steve Baker. Proud grandfather of Erin, Cailin, Cortney and Callie. Jerry was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Ted and Judy Baker. He and his sister, Judy Ruth, were raised in Riley and Terre Haute. Jerry graduated from Garfield High School in 1953 and Indiana State University in 1957. He was member of the TKE fraternity and served in the Navy Reserves. He moved to Michigan, and married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth O'Donnell. Jerry and Elizabeth recently celebrated 61 years together. He taught Industrial Arts classes at Mt. Clemens High School, 1957-1964, and was a drivers' training instructor. He proudly worked for General Motors' Pontiac Motor Division from 1964 until his retirement in 2001. Jerry was a long-time resident of Shelby Twp., Michigan, and spent many happy retirement years in Lake Suzy, Florida. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, basketball, and football, and he was an enthusiastic University of Michigan fan. He had fond memories of his time coaching SUAF little league baseball and softball, as well as watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events. Jerry and Liz spent their retirement years traveling, but never forgot their Indiana roots. They enjoyed spending time with family and cherished friends. They were blessed with 3 children, 4 granddaughters, and multiple grand-puppies that Jerry enjoyed taking for walks. In the mornings, he could be found with a crossword puzzle in hand. In addition, he spent time outside, always landscaping and watering the flowers, all while planning his next trip and adventure. If you were looking for a good place to eat, he was your man. If you needed directions, he was your guy. If you wanted to know the words to a song, he had it covered. If you wanted a guy to tell you to "stay home", he was "goin' alone", he was your ace Euchre partner. If you needed a laugh or a wise-crack joke, he had your back. Above all, however, he was someone who would always help a family member or friend. He would wish to say "adios" to you all!
