Jerry's adventure began on Poe Mountain, where he was born to Emmet and Lola May (Clemmons) Bewley. He was a cherished brother to his sisters, Glenda Penix of Russelville and Margaret B. Heathcok of Russelville. His life was enriched by the love of his life, his wife Lois Bewley. Together for 52 years, where they built a family that became Jerry's pride and joy.
A proud father, Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry Don Bewley, and wife Angela of Rush Springs, and his daughters, Linda Gilley and Sandra Bewley, both of Duncan. His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren: Kenny, Chuck, Kari, Bridgett, Conan, Amanda, Justin, and JT, as well as his eight great-grandchildren: Jace, Presley, Iysis, Addison, Jordan, Payton, Kylie, Bo, Hunter, and two great-great-grandchildren, Grayson and Tatam. Jerry's family was the cornerstone of his life, and each member held a special place in his heart.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois (Jones) Bewley, sister, Margaret B. Heathcock, and grandson, Chad Clampitt.
Jerry's commitment to service was evident throughout his distinguished career with The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, where he dedicated 20 years to The State of Oklahoma. During his time with OHP, Jerry became dual commissioned with the Oklahoma City Police Department during the police strike and was later assigned to the McAlester Prison Riots. After retiring and running his restaurants, he continued his duty to serve as a City of Duncan Lake Ranger. Jerry was recruited by the United States Marshal Service to start a new program for transporting inmates, now known as JPATS (CONAIR). During his ten years upholding justice, he was a Special Deputy United States Marshall and Aviation Lead Security Officer. His professional life was defined by unwavering honor and a profound sense of duty, as recognized by all who knew him. It was long rumored that Big Jerry was "By the book" and had no problem ticketing family members for their own driving failures. Jerry formally retired in 2000, and he traveled and spent quality time with his beloved family. His unwavering dedication and honor continue with his son, grandchild, and great-great-grandchild, who proudly carry on his legacy as civil servants.
Beyond his service, Jerry was an entrepreneur at heart. He owned and operated Clear Creek Concessions, Park View Restraunt, and Jerry's Cafe for 20 years and was the owner and operator of JLB Enterprise. His business ventures were driven by his sharp mind and a strong work ethic.
Jerry was a passionate outdoorsman whose love for nature and conservation was evident in his many years of raising wild game birds. He embraced the thrill of hunting quail, dove, white-tailed deer, and squirrels. His spirit truly came alive while trout fishing along the picturesque Roaring River State Park.
An active member in his community, Jerry was involved with the Red Red Rose, the Oklahoma Troopers Association, and many other organizations. His interests were as varied as his talents, and he approached each with the same level of passion and commitment.
