Jerry Douglas "Doug" Brown passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the cancer hospital at UNC Chapel Hill.

Doug was born February 13, 1955 in Wilson County to the late Rolland and Elva Brown. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by an older brother, Lloyd Brown. He was educated in Johnston County Schools. Doug was 1973 graduate of Smithfield Selma Senior High School. He was also a graduate of Wake Tech.

Left to cherish memories are his wife, Deborah Brown; brother, Virgil Brown (Pat); daughters, Emily Mathena (Barry), Michelle Church (Anthony) and Sarah Katz; his stepsons, Matthew Gurkin and John Gurkin; and grandchildren, Carson Church, Kinsley Owens, Own Casey and Cole Mathena.

Honoring Doug's wishes, there will be no immediate services. He chose cremation, and his loved ones will gather to celebrate his life at a later date.

Anyone wishing to honor Doug could please donate to Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, or to Carter's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3644 Old Beulah Road, Selma, NC 27576.
