Jerry Cesario Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Cypress on Mar. 13, 2022.
Jerry Anthony Cesario July 16, 1957 - March 13, 2022 _________________________ To put such a big personality into a few short paragraphs is quite the challenge. Sixty four years is a short time on this Earth, but Jerry lived a life so full that it was more like a hundred years on Earth. He literally stopped to smell the roses, absorbing all of God's creation. Ever dog got a pet, every child got a joke, every friend got a hug, and every encounter got warmth. He was born to Jerry Cesario Senior and Marie Laconca-Cesario on July 16th,1957. He was raised in New York with his two siblings Pasqual, and Sandra. He spoke recently of learning how to drive with "Uncle Pat", they broke into a junk yard and drove the cars around until they felt comfortable driving! "Aunt Sandy", was his best friend, talking to her weekly about everything and anything. They never stopped being close, he always watched out for her like a true older brother. His life as a young child was not easy. He truly beat the odds and fought for everything he had. It is what made him so strong, and so grateful for the life he created for himself. He is the greatest example of overcoming obstacles, and living proof of God's grace and love. . He met Angela Licari in Junior High. They "dated" in High School, and got married at age 19. This will be his forever love, and soulmate. They decided to move across country to California to be closer to family. He came to California with a purpose of becoming close to his Father and siblings: Tony, Jerry, Dolly, Jimmy, Peter, Robert, Danelle, and Dean. During this time he began work as a painter with his brothers, and continued that profession for several years. Many weekends consisted of family get togethers, full of Sunday Supper (with grandpa's gravy on grandma's gnocchi, finished with grandpas famous cheesecake), and lots of singing and home-video making. . He had four children with Angela (his greatest accomplishment in life). Lisa, born in 1979, Gina, born in 1984, Francesca, born in 1985, and Michael, born in 1989. He was dedicated to his family, finding joy in just being around them and of course sharing amazing Italian meals made by Angela. He helped to create and build the family business (Dominic's Ristorante Italiano), working weekdays as a contractor, and weekends as a pizza maker. Anyone who knows Jerry, knows that he is a perfectionist. If you needed your house painted, he would do it to perfection (no need for blue painters tape, because he had the steadiest hand), if you wanted a pepperoni pizza, you better believe the crust was the same thickness all the way through with exactly the same amount of pepperoni per slice! That was Jerry! Also, have we talked about the food-lover he was? Is there space for that? He lived each day like it was his last, enjoying life including his favorite meals (consisting of carbs and sweets)! Later in life Jerry became a "born again Christian'. Leading by example, he devoted his life to Jesus. He built a beautiful church family, and committed his life to structure, volunteer work as well as quality time with family. Any free chance he had, he gave back. He was extremely talented and gifted with expertise among many trades. He could fix your car, lay your tile, build a house, do electrical, basically anything you could possibly need help with, or a second opinion on, he was your guy. He was the most humble man, never taking credit, never bragging about himself or his innate talent. If he knew he could help, he would. He was also gifted in compassion, and warmth. His heart beat for the Lord and his heart filled with love for his family. He loved his children very much and was very vocal about it. He worked a full-time job, that was labor intensive that had him driving very far, yet he managed to make phone calls while sitting on the freeway. Calls just to say "hi, how are you and what's going on? " He would listen, always guiding in the direction of forgiveness, humility, and acceptance. He always answered his phone, even to just say "I have to call you back", never leaving an opportunity to not connect. . On his off time, He loved spending time with his grandkids as well, Nathaniel, Joshua, Natalia, Angelina, Isaac, Noah and Rudy. He would drive to Lisa's bearing enough Entenmann's Donuts for an army. He was the ultimate "Nonno", with all the goodies, all the hugs, and all the knucklehead sandwiches to drive a little one nuts! He walked Gina's dog often after his long grueling days, just to help her with her work load; leaving treats for her and Coco on the kitchen table. Jerry would drive to Francesca's home to pick her and Natalia up for lunch, or spend a day at the park. Followed by a long drive to Michael's, to help him fix up his house or install a new appliance. He would assist on many carpentry jobs with Michael, as they debated the best way and the most perfect way to get the job done. Never forgetting treats for their dogs as well. These moments are what Jerry lived for! Many Friday nights, over the years, he would go to Dominic's and sit at the wine bar and watch all his children run around the restaurant working. Many times he did not eat or want anything but to just watch us and be in our presence. He adored his family. He was never a proud man, but he could finally feel proud of the children he created, and he lived for these moments. . Jerry's siblings and friends would also agree that he was so reliable and helpful. He only wanted to give back, without expecting anything in return. He made his purpose in life to be a servant to others. He was the epitome of selflessness. If he could just sit in a quiet room with you, he would. Jerry left you with a feeling of contentment. He was a gentle soul that would give the best hugs, side-face kisses, positive advice, and would accept anyone for who they are. He would say, "Jesus loves you". "It's going to be okay". He had such a way with comfort; a gift from the Lord, that he fully embraced in his later years. Jerry left behind such beautiful traits to each of his kids. He was hilarious, a jokester, sarcastic, honest (maybe too honest?), loyal, committed, friendly, a social butterfly (made friends with strangers everywhere he went), loving, caring, thoughtful (always bearing random gifts), selfless, gifted, smart, humble, intelligent, hard working, and comforting. He was a beautiful soul and all who knew him are deeply saddened by the void they are now experiencing. It's hard to say good bye to someone so beloved and so connected to many. It's hard to say good bye to the rock, the anchor, the spiritual example of strength. It's hard to say good bye to the laughter, the jokes, the selflessness. But it's not good bye, it's "I'll see you later, until we meet again in God's ultimate heaven". There will never be closure, for he will be so missed, but he left with us the most amazing memories we can keep for our lifetime. He will always be with us, someone that special never leaves you, but lives forever in you.

My Dear Childhood Friend Jerry from Astoria New York

Words cannot express how broken hearted I was when I learned of your passing on March 13th, 2022. My friend we shared many memories together from growing up in Astoria NY in the 1970's to reconnecting out in California when I lived out their back in 1980's.

We continued our connection when you made your visits to NY to see your sister Sandra your brother Pat and cousin Dominic. If I'm missing anybody my apologies.

I been to yours and Angela's restaurant in California and both of you treated me like I was part of the family. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was excellent.

Our friendship was always the type where who ever contacted who we would continue like we saw each other yesterday now that connection is gone.

I will miss your text messages during the yearly holidays wishing me and my family good cheer and god blessings. We take those sort of things for granted don't we? Your family and friends will miss you dearly as well!

Until we meet again my friend rest in peace!

Love from your childhood buddy!

My dear brother, Anthony, your passing will always leave an emptiness in my heart. You were so kindhearted and loving. I will cherish our conversations forever; Almost everyday while you were driving in between stops, you would call me on the phone and call me “fat boy” and I would return your compliments by calling you “chubba wubba”. When you came to visit me you would offer your skills and talents to help me repair my house. As a father and grandfather you would give your heart to everyone, making sure they were all protected. I will miss you my dear brother every single day and one day we will laugh again when we meet again in heaven. I will always love you Anthony. Rest peacefully. - Your brother Pat

Uncle Jerry,
Although your time with us was cut short the connections you made with so many people are everlasting. I believe that part of the reason you were able to fight for so long is that so many people wanted you to remain here with us. I know you were greeted at heaven's gates by your mother and loved ones that you've lost. I'll never forget all of our times together, waking up to you rocking out on the guitar and my dad trying to "harmonize" with you. No matter how bad his singing was you were just happy to be jamming with someone. I think that sums you up best, always making people smile and laugh whether it is from telling jokes, stories, or singing. I've definitely inherited some traits from you, including my sense of humor, and I promise to try my best to make as many people smile here on Earth as you did until I meet you again in Heaven. I love you, rest peacefully.

Jerry was like an uncle to me. He was one of my mom's good friends. I am best friends with his daughter Lisa. I grew spending many holidays with the Cesarios: Christmas, Easter, 4th of July... I dearly miss him. I'm praying for all his kids and grandchildren constantly. Love you all. Love you, Uncle Jerry.

It saddens me that we only knew each other as children, and that was brief, due to my father’s military career. I wish I had known the man that was so honorable, loving and selfless. May you rest easy now in Heaven, Cousin.

Jerry would see me in the garage and scare the bee-gee-bees out of me. We laugh and then begin to talk about but stuff. He would alwaysalways ask about Adam my son. And our family pet. Moca. Which he called him, “Mocala”.

We always give each other hugs when we see each other and hugs when he leaves. Just like a family. Always helping me with small projects at my house. He would be someone I go to get advise. He was my best friend in my eyes. He was like a big brother.

Thank you Jerry for being there for me when I needed you the most. And thank you for not judging me. You a true friend ame brother like to me. I will always remember you no matter what!

Love you bro! And I’ll see you soon in heaven.

Jerry was my trustworthy brother-n-the Lord for over 40 years, the most kind, giving, talented man I've ever known. My family best memories are filled with the Cesarios many visits to Las Vegas.
During my divorce years,Jerry was my anchor
I always had my "Jerry list"waiting for him .
He was always willing to help me n my kids
Unconditionally.
Our phone conversations were a breath of fresh air ,so encouraging n wise.
He loved the Lord,he adored his family.
Our last conversations were about his retirement and his upcoming visits to Idaho .
Even though I'm sad to say goodbye, I look ahead to our reunion in heaven.
For ever,
Julia

Jerry was a wonderful soul, always beaming with exuberant energy. You couldn’t help but to find yourself smiling in the presence of his free spirit and lust for life. I can still feel his energy when recalling memories of listening to him practice playing his guitar and singing classic songs. He would repeat a verse or chorus as many times as it took to get the sound just right for his audience! My last time chatting with Jerry was at Michael’s wedding, where he was joking, laughing and dancing with his family and friends. Even after years, he was welcoming and warm, we shared in some wonderful conversation about life and of course, his late pet dog, Mocha! It was never a secret that his children were his world, his smile was proudly glowing that night. That’s how I will always remember Jerry, a warm spirited man - happy, singing, and dancing the night away with the people he loved. I feel lucky to have shared in his rich life for a flash of time.

Sending my love to the Cesario family

Jerry, you were more than a brother to me, you were my best friend. We enjoyed countless hours of fun, dinners, singing and family get togethers at my house. I will miss your weekly calls and guitar lessons. You taught me how to be a leader, not a follower. We watched our children grow to have children of their own. They raised their children with love just as we did. I will miss this great man, a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and my best friend. You lived your life with love and compassion. Rest in peace Jerry.

I will miss you so much especially our calls 4 to 5 times a week. I sometimes reach for the phone to call you and then I realize you are not here to pick up. I will miss our fun times and our laughs, but I will always have the memories of all those good times we had.
You were so caring and had a heart of gold and full of life.
Until we meet again.
With all my love your sister Sandra.❤

Jerry, you transcended the typical brother-in-law relationship to become more of a brother to me. I will miss our guitar-playing sessions with my failed attempts to sing along. Your bigger-than-life personality always puts a smile on anyone's face within talking distance. What you were the proudest of was "La Famiglia." I will never forget the countless number of times you went out of your way to support, and comfort or assist your friends in need. I will miss you, but look forward to the day when we both can pick up where we left off singing your favorite Van Morrison song, "Brown-Eyed Girl." Rest in Peace.
