Jerry Dell Ivester, 70, of Demorest, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 3, 2025, following an extended illness.
Born in Toccoa, Georgia, on July 9, 1955, Jerry was the beloved son of the late John Alford "Dutch" Ivester and Dorothy Louise Garrett Ivester. A proud member of the Habersham Central High School Class of 1973, Jerry spent his life working hard and providing for his family. He built a career as a self-employed poultry farmer and logger - professions that reflected his strong work ethic, quiet determination, and love of the outdoors.
Jerry was an avid deer hunter who found peace and joy in nature. Whether walking through the woods or spending time on his land, he appreciated the simple beauty of Gods creation. Though a man of few words, Jerrys actions spoke volumes. He faced his illness with remarkable strength, faith, and perseverance, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Above all, Jerrys family was the center of his world. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest pride came from the joy and laughter of those he loved most.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Ivester Walden.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Holcomb Ivester; daughters and son-in-law, Michele and Jason Dalton, and Stephanie Ivester; grandchildren, Ethan and Grace Dalton, Shelby Dalton, Eli Grizzle, and Emma Grizzle; and great-grandchildren, Harper and Kampton Dalton. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Sandy Ivester, and David and Pam Ivester; sister and brothers-in-law, Judy and Michael Collins, and Bobby Walden; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and McEntire Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Taylor and Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Interment followed in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
