Jerry Richard Heyboer, 83, peacefully passed away on Tuesday afternoon, December 2, 2025. He was surrounded by his family: Trudy, his wife of 62 years; children, Roger & Wendy Poel, and Bobbi Jo (BJ) Heyboer; grandchildren, Maxim Poel and Jillian Poel.
He is also survived by siblings, Carol Krenn, Ted Visser, Burt & Mary Cook, Ken & Ruth Nederveld; many nieces, nephews, and their kids. He will be missed by many friends, too-some of whom he had known most of his life (even going back to kindergarten). He is survived also by Longcore stepsiblings and their families, Deb, Steve & Pam, Greg, Bryan, Dean & Lori, Marlin & Pat Wiles, Vickie Catania, and Rog & Rhonda Rose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Winnie Heyboer; parents in-law, Nick Cook, Robert and Geneva Longcore; brother-in-law, Ken Krenn; sister-in-law, Loretta Visser; and stepsiblings, Gord Longcore, Karil Longcore, and Earl Catania.
Jerry was a life-long resident of Hudsonville, Michigan after being adopted as a baby by his parents. He also spent a lot of time and enjoyed being at Bills Lake in Newaygo. He loved God, his family, and his friends well. He was generous with his time, care, encouragement, and prayers. He served over many years in his church and in Youth Unlimited. He helped coordinate summer worship at the tent church of Pine Grove CRC for many years. Jerry had a fulfilling career in business, managing and owning credit reporting agencies. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. He also had an eye for fashion and decorating. He put a lot of thought and care into making their home inviting with seasonal décor as well as decorating the outside of their home and cottage with flowers.
Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, December 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at VanderLaan Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Monday, December 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Christian Reformed Church in Hudsonville with a luncheon to follow. Contributions in honor of Jerry may be given to Messiah CRC or Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge.
A livestream of the funeral service will be available on the Messiah CRC YouTube page.
