Jerry Thomas Holbrook, age 79, met his Savior and Lord May 21, 2024, after a long illness. With his loving and devoted wife by his side, he had a calm and peaceful passing into the arms of God.
He was born to Louise and Paris Holbrook April 04, 1945, in Gainesville, Georgia. Jerry professed his life to the Lord at age 10 and knew where he would spend his eternity. He lived in Cumming Georgia all his life and married his high school sweetheart a year after graduation. He and Judy were blessed with two children within the first three years of marriage and began a happy family life.
Jerry enjoyed working for IBM for 25 years and retired at age 65. He taught Sunday school for several years and spent years as deacon at Brookwood Baptist Church and First Baptist Cumming. He was a board member of Watchman Fellowship.
His life was devoted to knowing more and more about God’s Word. He had a calling for witnessing and leading others to Christ. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Cumming and was blessed to join them in mission work, locally and across the seas. His question to waitresses, doctors and many others was often “do you know Jesus?” or “did you ever think about where you’re going some day?”
Jerry was granddaddy to 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. They were his joy and pride. He had an indescribable love for them and loved spending time with them teaching them baseball, softball, playing checkers or joining in a tea party, party hat and all.
Jerry’s wife, Judy, claimed he spoiled her. He would often pat her face and say, “you’re just as cute as you need to be?” She had a strong love for him and joined him in spreading the Word many places they went. We are sad but are celebrating his victory! He will be missed more than words can say.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Paris & Louise Holbrook, brother; Charles Holbrook, father-in-law & mother-in-law; Garland & Jeanette Sorrells, brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law; Shelby & Alton Westray, and Rita Shadburn.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Judy Sorrells Holbrook, children; Tommy & Taaryn Holbrook of Cumming, Angie & Mark Holt of Suwanee, GA, brothers & sisters -in-law; Raye & Lynn Jennings, Doug & Remelba Sorrells, Roger Shadburn, Janet & Lane Millwood, Bill & Barbara Sorrells, best friend; Buddy West, 7 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren; Chelsea, Collin, Emma, Ian, Isabella, Lily, Sarah, Daisey & Ollie. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
