Obituary of Jerry Berthold Lindemann
Jerry Berthold Lindemann was born to Edward and Esther (Hoff) Lindemann on Feb.8, 1947 in Eureka,SD.
He attended elementary school in a one room school house about a mile from his farm. He would meet cousins on the walk and they'd all go together. He boarded with family in Eureka for the first 2 years of high school and then was bussed to Polluck High School for 2 years.
Graduated from Pollock in 1965 and joined the US NAVY. After boot camp in San Diego CA he picked the submarine service as his choice field.
He said they said more pay and better food and thought that's for me!! He attended sub school in Groton CT and then was aboard his first sub. A diesel boat out of Key West FL the USS Chopper 342. Went through many various Navy schools and eventually was an instructor at the sub school in Groton CT. He also spent time aboard the Fleet Ballistic Missle sub the USS Lewis and Clark 644 and commissioned the fast attack submarine the USS Guitarro 665. Spent 10 yrs in the active Navy and 18 1/2 yrs in the Reserves retiring in 1993 as a Senior Chief. In civilian life he worked as a service tech fixing computerized business telephone systems. He also became an instructor in that field too.
Jerry met his wife in 1968 on a Grey Hound Bus in Sioux Falls SD when they were both were traveling home. They dated the 2 wks he was home and 1 week in April on her visit to him in Charleston SC. They were married on July 21, 1968 when he returned from sea patrol.
He loved hunting, fishing, and working on cars. Also loved to dance! In later years he loved to traveling in his motorhome with his wife and especially when he could take the grandkids with him.
He is survived by his wife Rocky of 55yrs, 2 children Chet (Danielle) Lindemann and Melissa (Keith) Fields, 5 grandchildren Chas (Bri) Fields, Dylan (Aniyah) Fields, Kaitlyn (Anwar) Fields, Tristan and Tenley Lindemann; brothers Dean Lindemann and Neil (Carole) Lindemann and sister Linda Nitschke and many loving nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant brother Wayne, an infant son Michael, and an infant granddaughter Tava Lindemann.
