Mr. Jerry Wayne Lucas, 70, passed away Tuesday (March 22, 2022) at the Hospice Satilla House in Waycross following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born and raised in Waycross to the late Sidney Lucas and Darcus Crews Lucas. He was a member of Haywood Baptist Church in Dixie Union. He retired from CSX Transportation as an electrician after 40 ½ years. After retiring, he continued to do contract work through his company, Lucas Locomotive Electrical Repair, LLC up until late 2021.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Randall Lucas and Tommy Lucas; and a sister, Valeria Snyder.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Lucas of Waycross; four children, Dr. Jason Lucas (Angela) of Waycross, Kristi Hewett (James) of Waycross, Matthew Lucas of Waycross, and Madison Robbins (Kolby) of Waycross; five grandchildren, Justin Lucas, Luke Corbett, Eli Lucas, Nealie Corbett, and Zac Lucas; a sister, Cindy Dial of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry had a lot of titles over the years - electrician, contractor, brother, son, friend, and many more as the years went by. But without a doubt, his favorite title was Husband, Dad, and then Papa. In Jerry's younger days, he spent many years playing basketball and baseball during high school. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends. When he was not golfing or watching sports, he was doing something that he loved - working on trains. He spent many years devoted to his work, and could diagnose just about any electrical issue with a train. Along with that, he enjoyed going to the mountains and the beach. His family was a huge part of his heart and more than anything he enjoyed spending time with them.
Honorary Pallbearers are Randy McCarthy, John Murrary, Wanice Brigman, Joey King, Henry Strickland and Donald Minix.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (March 26, 2022) at Haywood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Friday evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o'clock.
The Hospice Satilla House took wonderful care of Jerry in his last days, so if you feel led, please consider making a donation directly to them in lieu of flowers.
