Jerry Irvin Lytle, 80, of Gage, OK, passed from this life to his eternal home with Jesus on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Shattuck Nursing Center, in
Shattuck, OK.
He was born in Gage, OK on April 28, 1945, to Joseph M. and Olive Marie (Harris) Lytle. He was welcomed home by his two big brothers, Floyd and Duane. He was raised in Gage in a warm and loving home with both sets of grandparents living close by. After being the 'baby' of the family for several years, he became big brother in December of 1955, to his baby sister, Juanita.
Jerry graduated from Gage High School in 1963, with the honor of Valedictorian of his Senior class. The following Fall, he enrolled in Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. Upon graduating from college, he secured employment in Grand Prairie, TX, as an accountant for the Federal Government. After a time, he decided city life was not for him and he returned home to acquire a teaching degree to teach Jr. High and High School math. He taught in various places in Oklahoma: Aline, Tyrone, Turpin and Gage. Family was very important to him and he gave up his teaching career to stay close to his dad and sister after his mother passed away in 1969. He worked several years for High Plains Siding Company for his good friends Woody and Jake Orcutt. His finally place of employment was at Venture Food Store in Shattuck, where he worked for 12 years, having to give that up because of health issues. He enjoyed his work there and made many special friends. He took great pride in his work and did his job in the same manner he would have wanted it done if it were his own business.
Jerry gave his life to Christ while he was in high school. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Gage. He devoted his time and energy making sure the grounds were manicured and doing maintenance jobs in and around the church. Most importantly, he did all things for the glory of God. That's how he lived his life.
Jerry loved the outdoors and during the warm seasons he could be found working in the yard and tending his vegetable garden, sharing the harvest with family and friends. During the colder months he loved doing jigsaw puzzles and making the best peanut brittle around. Fortunately, for many, he also liked to share the sweet candy. He also had a special, constant friend, his cat. Over the years, he had several, but he wasn't really good with names and most of them were known, simply, as Cat.
Jerry will always be remembered for his laid-back, casual personality, generosity, helping those in need, his love of family and especially his love for the Lord.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Olive Lytle; brother, Floyd and his wife, Sharon; and infant niece, Flora Kay Lytle.
He is survived by his brother, Duane Lytle and wife, Betty of Arkoma, OK; his sister, Juanita and husband Irvin Tolle of Gage, OK; nieces and nephews Joseph Lytle; Ann Lytle; Susan and Aaron Martin; Wayne and Rene Lytle; John Lytle; Lisa and Rocky Schmidt; Darren and Jennifer Tolle; many great nieces and nephews and a host of fiends.
