Jerry D. Martin
Jerry D. Martin - Passed away with his loving family by his side, at Edward Hospital on Friday, December 26, 2025 at the age of 70. Jerry was a graduate of Romeoville High School and worked for Caterpillar Tractor, Martin Cement and V & N Concrete Products Inc. He retired from the Laborers' Union in 2020. Survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Gwen (nee Mercado) Martin, his son Michael K. (Maggie) Martin, his two grandchildren Ian and Camden Martin, his sisters Janet (Rick) Radakovitz and Karen Stieg, his brothers Mark Martin and Marty Martin, his his mother-in law Audrey Mercado, brother-in-law Guy (Kayoko) Mercado, sister-in-laws Gail (Jeff) Schwartz, Geri Pitts and Glenda Mercado, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by his son Steven G. Martin, parents Arid Martin and Joyce Winters, brothers Dale Martin and Roger Martin, sister Ginger Winters, father-in-law George Mercado, brother-in-law Donald Pitts and nephew Brian Lopez. Jerry and Gwen were high school sweethearts. They married in 1975 and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Jerry had a passion for fishing and shared this passion dearly with friends and family. He especially looked forward to the annual walleye tournaments that were held for many years in the Wisconsin Dells. Jerry was extremely proud of his 23 Ford T-Bucket. He built it from the ground up and proudly won many trophies at car shows. For everything life threw at him, Jerry was very resilient. He held onto his great sense of humor and always had jokes and stories to share. His greatest love was his family. Jerry was an avid Doctor Who fan and had cultivated a special lifelong bond with his late son, Steven, on all things Doctor Who. After the immense and unexpected loss of their oldest son, Steven, both Jerry and Gwen endured with the loving support of their youngest son Michael, daughter-in-law Maggie, and two cherished grandsons Ian and Camden. Jerry will be profoundly missed by all and most especially by his lifelong love and best friend, Gwen. Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Saturday, January 3rd at 9:30 A.M. to St. Mary's Catholic Church Minooka at 10:30 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial.
