Jerry Edwin McClanahan, 89, of Goshen, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026.

Jerry was born on October 12, 1936, in East Moline, Illinois, to William McClanahan and Mary (Winthurst) Borum. He graduated from East Moline High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Moline Community College as well as his master’s degree from Arizona State University. He taught Social Studies and Sociology for several years at Carthage High School and later at Robert Morris College in Carthage, Illinois.

Jerry loved being outdoors. He ran marathons and enjoyed hiking and camping. He loved to read so much that he decided to write his own series of short stories called Masked Mouse Adventures. Jerry also enjoyed coaching softball and golf and played basketball as well. In his downtime, he enjoyed watching Looney Tunes, Pink Panther, and Phineas and Ferb, as well as playing Monopoly, The Game of Life, Checkers, and completing crossword puzzles.

Jerry is survived by his six children: Craig (Jayne) McClanahan, Dave (Debra) McClanahan, John (Michelle) McClanahan, Carol (Randy) Beckett, Kelley (Mark) Gleva, and Megan McClanahan; 13 grandchildren: Dan, Mark, Sarah, Elizabeth, Andrew, Sarah, Rachel, Jacob, Laura, Molly, Grace, Mason, and Lauren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Suzanne; his great-grandson, Jeremy; and his stepfather, Loren Borum.

A graveside service will be held at Violet Cemetery in Goshen, Indiana, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bible Baptist Church in Wakarusa, Indiana.
