Jerry Thomas "J.T." McMurray

Jerry Thomas "J.T." McMurray, 94, of Blountville went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Hiltons, VA to the late Melvin and Cordia McMurray and served his country in the U.S Army during the Korean War. J.T. worked for Kingsport Housing Authority for over 40 years before his retirement. After his retirement he pursued his passion which was farming and gardening. One of his greatest joys was watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life and soulmate, Sarah Etta "Et" McMurray and six siblings.
Survivors include his sons, Jerry Lee McMurray, and Tim McMurray and wife Lisa; along with a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jordan Estepp officiating. Music will be provided by the McMurray Brothers.
A graveside service will follow at Gardners Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Hobbs Sr., Harlan Hobbs, Jeff Estepp, Dan Taylor, Jack Hobbs Jr., and Pam Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ric Brooks, Jimmy Johnson, Cole Hileman, Randal Barger and Ronald Hileman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bristol Regional Medical Center especially Dr. Towe and the nurses on the third floor for their loving care. In addition, Caris Hospice particularly Chaplain Daniel, Courtney, Nik, Gina, Sarah, and Shane for their compassion and care. Lastly to Pam Harris a special caregiver and friend.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Hurland Baptist Church at 763 New Hurland Church Lane Hiltons, VA 24258
