Jerry Melloncamp Obituary

Jerry Lee "Rocket" Melloncamp, age 77, of Seymour, passed away early Monday morning, September 29, 2025, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Columbus, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was baptized in Christ on July 4, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, and he publicly confirmed his faith on March 26, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brownstown. A devoted believer, Jerry continued as a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour for the remainder of his life.

Mr. Melloncamp graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1966.

Jerry deeply loved his family and especially valued the time he spent with his grandchildren. He also deeply cherished his 57 year marriage to his wife, Sandy. Jerry wholeheartedly supported his daughters and grandchildren, taking pride in all their endeavors and always being their biggest fan.

Racing was the heart of Jerry's life. From an early age, he developed a strong passion for racing and stayed connected to it throughout his entire life. Not only did he race cars, but he also enjoyed working on them. After 10 years of dedicated service, Jerry retired from Brewco Motorsports.

Aside from racing, Jerry's favorite hobbies were watching basketball and wrestling, along with playing golf.

Born on June 13, 1948, Seymour, Jerry was the son of Gerald and Betty (Meahl) Melloncamp, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 31, 1968, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, he married Sandra Kay Trueblood, and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include two daughters: Deedra (Ervin) Kruse of Seymour, and Kelly (Erik) Marshall of Trafalgar; seven grandchildren: Ross Kruse, Reid (Nevaeh) Kruse, Sandra Paxton Marshall, Reuben (fiancee Chantal Wilson) Kruse, Ryder Marshall, Coen Marshall, and Rose Kruse; three sisters: Wanda Lakins of Seymour, Denise Melloncamp of Brownstown, and Kathy (Craig) Fritz of Brownstown.
