Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tate Mortuary on Dec. 29, 2025.
Jerry R Miller passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve 2025. Jerry was born on April 2, 1939 in
Provo, UT to Helen and Ralph Miller. He was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission to Melbourne, Australia. Later, he would attend Brigham Young University where he earned his degree in Engineering. While attending BYU, Jerry met his eternal
sweetheart, Judy Ann Nelson, in the Office of the President of the University, where Judy worked as Secretary to the President. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 20, 1963, by N. Eldon Tanner, a former Apostle and member of the First Presidency of the Church.
Jerry and Judy welcomed their first child, Monica, shortly before moving to California to accept a job offer from General Electric. When Jerry was offered a job to work as an Engineer for Tooele Army Depot, about a year later, they were pleased with the chance to come back home. After moving back to Pleasant Grove, Utah they welcomed their other three children, Kevin, Ken, and Melody.
Jerry commuted for a number of years from Pleasant Grove to Tooele before the family decided to permanently move to Tooele.
Jerry was a strong yet soft-spoken man and didn't like to draw attention to himself or his accomplishments. But we, as his family who loved him so much, want to celebrate his tremendous life and perhaps brag just a little about this amazing man who blessed our lives so greatly.
Jerry excelled in a distinguished Engineering career for 43 years, working on projects that took him around the globe; to places like Egypt, Korea, Japan, Germany, England, Italy, Taiwan, and literally every state in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii. His beloved wife Judy often traveled with him. Jerry received many accolades and certainly totaled a lot of frequent flyer miles!
But as important as his career was, to his family it was even more important that he was the best husband and dad ever! Somehow, with all his career demands, he always made time for his family! The stories of family adventures are endless.
Jerry held many Church callings. And everyone knew how faithful he was in fulfilling and magnifying any calling and responsibility he was given. Like everything else in his life, he took his responsibilities very seriously and gave them his all.
Jerry could fix absolutely anything. His children and grandchildren would bring him anything that had broken and he somehow found a way to fix whatever it was. We don't have documented proof of this, but we believe even NASA secretly brought him any projects their engineers couldn't handle.
It's hard not to brag about such a great guy, even if he wouldn't have wanted us to do so.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held prior from 9:30am to 10:45am. The location for the funeral will be the Tooele South Stake Center, located at 1025 Southwest Drive.
