George Jerry Mundy, Jr. passed into eternal life on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the age of 75.
Born in Newberry on November 24, 1950, he was the son of the late George Jerry Mundy, Sr. and Wanda Ard Mundy. Jerry was a man defined by his craft. As an electrical design draftsman, he dedicated over 54 years of his life to VC Summer Nuclear Power Plant for the Nuclear Engineering Department, as well as a contractor to Westinghouse for seven of those years. Those decades were more than just a job to him—they were a point of immense pride and a testament to his dedication.
Jerry really enjoyed metal detecting, coin collecting, fishing, ancestry research, and music—especially Dolly Parton, John Denver, and Patsy Cline. He was a fan of Atlanta Braves baseball, and Gamecock football. He loved watching the History Channel and Western movies, and he faithfully watched Gunsmoke every day. His one legendary weakness was his sweet tooth; he never met a dessert he didn't like. He had a special softness, too, for the dogs he loved on and cared for over the years—they were as much a part of the family as anyone. Above all, the most important part of his life was his wife and the family they grew together. He was truly a hardworking and devoted man who will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Sink Mundy, and their children, Angela (Tony) Davenport, Stacy Mundy (Wayne), George Jerry “Jay” Mundy, III (Lisa), Sandie Mundy (Adam), and Justin (Megan) Mundy, son of Stacy whom Jerry and his wife lovingly raised as their own; grand-children Rachel Davenport, Logan (Samantha) Davenport, Mason Mundy, Myles Mundy, and Georgia Mundy; great-grand children, Hailey Davenport, Ellie Mundy, and Jackson Mundy; brother, Kerry Mundy; sisters, Cindy Irons and Carol Williams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Thomas Mundy, his younger brother Edward “Eddie” Mundy, his younger sister, Sandra Mundy, and his older sister Deborah “Debbie”Mundy.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Agape Care Group for providing comfort and support in his last days.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 11:00 am – 12:00 Noon at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home with the funeral to immediately follow in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
