JERRY POWELL - Jerry Howard Powell, age 78, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 26, 2025, at the State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Justin Grifford officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mr. Powell was born May 29, 1947, in Tuscaloosa, AL, to the late Johnnie and Ruth Lancaster Jones. He graduated from Caledonia High School in 1965 and was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the United States Navy. Mr. Powell retired from the Department of Defense Civil Engineering at Columbus Air Force Base. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Powell, and grandparents, Olin and Martha Lancaster.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Duncan Powell of Columbus, MS, daughters, Angel Whittington and her husband Gabe, and Tiffany Dyer and her husband Jason, grandchildren, Karah Dyer, Duncan Whittington, and Peyton Dyer, brothers, Johnnie B. Jones of TX, and Joey Jones of Columbus, MS, sisters, Jeannie Smith of Columbus, MS, and Janice Temple of TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, a great great niece, and great great nephews.
Pallbearers will be Duncan Whittington, Peyton Dyer, Hunter Dorroh, Wayne Ellis, Larry Melton, John Dale, and Ellis Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Phillips, Danny Lancaster, Shorty Yearby, Joe Yearby, Gary Richardson, Percy Richardson, Christy Massy, Neil Davis, and the staff & nurses of Legacy Hospice.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
