Jerry D. Shelby passed away July 6, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born May 17, 1948 to the late Agle Shelby and Flossie Shelby.
Throughout his career at G.E. Plastics/Sabic, where he retired in 2010, Jerry was affectionately known as "Doc" to his coworkers. However, impact extended far beyond the workplace. Jerry was a passionate genealogist who dedicated countless hours to researching the Shelby family history. His love for uncovering the past led him and his wife, Barbara on journeys across the country, resulting in over 25 meticulously compiled books filled with stories and information from various corners of the nation. Not only did Jerry document history, but he also had a remarkable talent for connecting with distant relatives, often traveling to meet them in person.
Those who knew Jerry could attest to his truly genuine and kind nature. His unwavering faith in God shone through in every aspect of his life, guiding him as he navigated the highs and lows with grace and resilience.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara P. Shelby; brother, Terry Shelby and his sister, Brenda Shelby.
He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Shelby and Judith Shelby (Herschel Jackson); brother, Rickey (Donna) Shelby; sister, Sheila (Fletch) Malone and sister-in-law, Susan Shelby and numerous nieces and nephews, who he was affectionately "Uncle Jerry" to.
