Jerry Shannon Spunaugle, 84, of Broken Arrow, passed away at Clarehouse after an extended battle with the effects of COVID caught in April 2022, and cancer. He was born on November 11, 1938 in
Vinita, Oklahoma to Dewey and Elvina Spunaugle. He grew up in Pyramid Corner near Timber Hill and went to school at
Bluejacket, Oklahoma, where he graduated in 1956 as Co-Salutatorian.
Jerry worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 42 years, retiring in 2000 as the Division 8 Construction Office Manager and as a Traffic Engineer reviewing contractor technical data packages. Prior to that, he worked as a surveyor for Hendricks and traveled all over the state of Oklahoma.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna (Dee); his parents Dewey and Elvina; and sister Linda. He is survived by his brother Lonnie and his wife Sarah of
Jacksonville, TX; son Doug and his wife Lisa of Broken Arrow; daughter Shirley of Duncannon, PA; Pamela Strickland; Bonnie Pace and her husband Ron; Dean Williams; Darryl Glass; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jerry enjoyed woodworking, including building bridges and bird houses for his and Deanna's small business, Wee Wood, while they lived on Oologah Lake north of Claremore. He also enjoyed going with Dee to shop at arts and crafts sales, sometimes driving as much as 2-3 hours (or more) to find what they wanted! They also were known for breeding Terriers, 3 of which remain, and maintaining a "small zoo" of various birds and other animals. Jerry also enjoyed playing golf whenever he could!
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Friday, January 13, 2023 at 3 p.m., at the Floral Haven Chapel, 6500 S. 129th E. Ave,
Broken Arrow, OK. A reception will follow the memorial service at the Floral Haven Family Center located behind the Chapel. Please join us and share your stories with us!

The caring staff have very warm hearts and took great care of Jerry during his last hours. We extend our thanks and appreciation to both Clarehouse and to the hospice team who worked with us for making the transition peaceful for him!
