Jerry Gene Stanton, 90, formerly of Marshalltown, IA, died June 23, 2025, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born August 19, 1934, in Leavenworth, KS to Clarence and Rosemary (Grabenbauer) Stanton.
Jerry retired as an over-the-road truck driver for Yellow Freightline, Liberal, KS. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and listening to classic country music. Jerry looked forward each week to playing pool with his buddies at the Elmdale Park Senior Center. Above all, Jerry was always there for his family, loving them unconditionally through all the peaks and valleys in their lives. He was more than just a grandfather; he was someone who his grandchildren admired.
On October 27, 1951, he married his school sweetheart and love of his life, Mary Helen Scovill, in Marshalltown, IA. They shared 68 years of holding hands and caring for each other, before Mary Helen died December 23, 2019. Jerry and Mary Helen's 68 years of marriage was a true love story, like a fairytale.
Jerry is survived by: son, Tom Stanton (Marlene) of Mountain Home, AR; daughter, Helen Wilkey of Hutchinson; sisters, Donna Hoing of Marshalltown, IA and Linda Theissen (Jerry) of Toledo, IA; grandchildren, Tina Stanton, Christy Miller, Jeff Ferneau, Robin Huiett, and Derek Griblin; nine great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Mary Helen; son, Terry Stanton; sister, Jackie Wallace; brothers, Bud Stanton and Ed Stanton; and son-in-law, Norman O'Neill.
Private family inurnment will take place in Iowa.
Memorials are suggested to Elmdale Park Senior Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
