Jess D. "JD" Karns passed away November 13, 2025, surrounded by family. There will be no services held at this time per JD's wishes.
JD was born on August 23, 1941, in Pleasantville, Iowa to Jess and Zada Karns. Pleasantville is where JD was raised and graduated from high school in the class of '59. After graduating high school, JD attending Iowa State University for a year then decided to join the U.S. Army where he remained for 3 years.
In 1964, JD met the love of his life, Carla, whom he soon married in 1966. They lived a great 59 years and 9 months together before JD passed.
The financial business is where JD laid his occupational priorities in his adult life. He served as the Office Manager and later as Regional Manager for ITT at Thorp Credit then later worked with the FDIC in Chicago. Even after retiring, JD continued consulting with troubled banks as a workout specialist, something he valued.
Family was the heart of JD's life. He cherished more than 25 years of horseback riding and camping trips, creating countless memories with his children and grandchildren. Annual summer trips to Custer Park, Blackhills, South Dakota, fall rides, and spring break adventures throughout the mid-western states became treasured traditions for the entire family. JD especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is preceded by his parents, Jess and Zada and a stepfather, WM Burrell.
JD is survived by his loving wife, Carla; children, Jeffery D. Karns, Stacey A. (Marcus) Peterson; grandchildren: Justin D. (Jory) Karns, Taylor R. Karns, Jenna R. Karns, Aaron Peterson, Cael Peterson; great grandchildren, James D. Karns, Jack M. Karns, Jozie A. Karns; brother, Doug D. (Kristie) Karns; sisters-in-law, Lori Townsend and Lanette Simmons; several other nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
