Mr. Jesse ‘Mac’ Burrell, 74, of Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, husband of 33 years to Annie Ruth “Tweet” Lawrence Burrell, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. Mac fought a valiant battle with Agent Orange exposure during his time of serving with the US Army during Vietnam.
Born in Elberton on March 30, 1951, he was a son of the late Ernest Hobert Burrell and Belle Elizabeth Darnell Burrell. Mac was a proud 1969 graduate of Elbert County High School, was of the Baptist faith, and was a proud US Army veteran.
A master mechanic, Mac could fix anything he put his mind to. He founded Mac’s Alignment Shop where he worked for many years, and later worked as a mechanic for the US Army Corp of Engineers at Hartwell Dam and Lake. Mac later retired from the maintenance department at Carolina Fabritex.
He was an avid outdoorsman who never missed an opportunity to hunt or fish for catfish. Mac enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and participating in go-cart racing. In his later years, he looked forward to Sunday afternoon gatherings at Ray Anderson’s.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Tweet, is his brother, Austin Burrell of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mac is preceded in death by his sisters: Betty Ruth Anderson, Doris Jacqueline Burrell, and Freda Burrell McGovern.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19, from 10:00-10:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ken Brewer officiating.
Committal services will be in Elmhurst Cemetery with military honors rendered by the US Army. Pallbearers are Bob Jenkins, Mike Anderson, Kevin Lunsford, David King, Darrell Lawrence, and Jason Marlow.
Those attending the service are asked to come as you are, Mac would want everyone dressed casually and comfortably.
Flowers are accepted. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, an organization near and dear to Mac’s heart.
