Jesse Austin Darnes, age 93, of Tellico Plains, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Monroe Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Tellico Plains to Jesse Garland Darnes and Una Williams Darnes. After graduating from Tellico Plains High School in 1952, he attended Hiwassee College where he studied Liberal Arts, then transferred to East Tennessee State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. He was a teacher at Tellico Plains High School for 30 years, where he taught typing, accounting and business law. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served 2 years from 1956-1958 working in the Pentagon as an Education Specialist. He was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for 56 ½ years and caretaker of Cane Creek Cemetery for 25 years. After retirement, Austin taught business classes at Hiwassee College for 10 years. He also taught GED classes for 2 years in Monroe County. Preceded in death by parents, Jesse Garland Darnes and Una Williams Darnes, siblings and spouses, Garland and Rachel Darnes, Wayne and Shirley Darnes, sister, Bertha Alline Darnes, brothers-in-law, John Campbell and Clint Lowe, half-siblings, William and Bernice Williams, Robert and Birdie Darnes, Roy and Ella Darnes, Melvin and Eva Carroll, nieces and nephews. Survivors, sisters, Faytella Campbell, Barbara Lowe, nieces and nephews, Cynthia Woods, Donna Darnes, Joseph and Terri Belcher, David Darnes, Dawn Godo, Gwen McMillan (James Legault), Shane Devine, Jason Pittman, Brandon Darnes, Chase McMillan, Skyler Godo, Merci Devine, Aulora Devine, Lillyanne Belcher, Darryl and Karne Williams, JoAnn Lake, Donnie and Barb Williams and many other nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 1-3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
