Mrs. Jessie Garnett Cassady Gorrell, 86, of Bristol, Virginia, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born Monday, July 9, 1923 in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Jesse Allen and Mary Garnett McGlocklin Cassady. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Louis Gorrell, and son, David Bruce Gorrell.
Among other places, she lived in Owensboro, Kentucky and Anniston, Alabama for many years prior to moving to Bristol three years ago. She cherished her strong family ties and the love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her life, Mrs. Gorrell was an active member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church of Owensboro, Kentucky, Thruston United Methodist Church of Thruston, Kentucky, Bethel United Methodist Church of Blountville, Tennessee and First United Methodist Church of Bristol, Tennessee.
Mrs. Gorrell is survived by her sons, Dr. Alan L. Gorrell and wife Sandy of Bristol, Tennessee, Dr. Jeff Gorrell of Fairfax, Virginia, and Brian Gorrell and wife Grace of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Nancy and George Skiadas of Owensboro, Kentucky; sister, Judy Kirtley and husband Robert of Bowling Green, Kentucky; brother-in-law, John Gorrell and wife, Jenny of Lexington, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Gerry Gorrell of Lexington, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Tracy of Los Angeles, California; Shawn and wife Kara of Shelbyville, Kentucky; Kelly and husband Brad of Talladega, Alabama; Todd and wife Jeanie of Lexington, Kentucky; Chris of Bristol, Tennessee; Josh and wife Sarah of Indianapolis, Indiana; Ben of Owensboro, Kentucky; and Cassady of Lexington, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren, Will, Bradley, Emma, David Alexander, and Julia; and eight nieces and nephews.
Arrangements for her memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to any of the churches to which she belonged. Arrangements especially for Mrs. Gorrell and her family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory.
