Jesse was born on September 16, 1949 in Hillsboro, Illinois the son of Lloyd Loran Enloe and Helen June (Uhlry) Shuey Somerville. After his father's death, his mother remarried Frederick Shuey who raised Jesse as his own. Jesse married Joyce E. Daniels on January 5, 1991. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2018.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Brown; brothers, Michael Uhlry, Frederick and Dick Shuey, and Albert Gibbons.
Jesse served honorably and proudly in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked for Superior Equipment before they closed and later worked and retired from Agri-Fab. Jesse was known for his warm and ornery personality. His life's journey was a collage of devoted service, hard work and cherished memories. Jesse was an accomplished junker, having a degree in dumpster diving. He never passed up an opportunity to grab an empty soda can, and even during his stay at Eastview Nursing Home, he would even have the staff save their cans for him. While at the nursing home he was always up to no good, and the staff referred to him as "Mr. Innocent." Jesse was an amazing story teller, you never knew if he was telling the truth, or if there were a few little white lies added. Jesse loved chocolate milk and Reese's peanut butter cups. His favorite TV shows were Pawn Stars and Mama's family, and he loved listening to CCR, and he liked it loud! Jesse never knew a stranger and you could always find him with a $2 bill in his pocket. Jesse will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend a Thank You to the staff at Transitions Care (Cassie, Charity and Taylor) as well as the staff at Eastview. Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the Sullivan ReStore
Habitat for Humanity, 401 South Hamilton, Sullivan, IL 61951. Online condolences may be expressed at

In a tribute to Jesse's commitment to collecting cans and recycling, the family requests everyone attending please bring an empty can to be placed in the back of a truck located at the entrance of the funeral home.
