Jesse Allen Smith, born on June 9, 1970, in Asheville, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 31, 2026, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served through his career.
Jesse dedicated over 20 years of his life to working at Denny's, where he was known for his warm smile and great service to his many regular customers. He began his journey at the Patton Avenue location, and continued to serve with dedication at the Hendersonville restaurant after the previous location closed. His colleagues regarded him with great affection, recognizing his commitment and his friendly nature that made the dining experience memorable for all patrons.
Educated in Asheville, Jesse graduated from Asheville High School in 1988. He was a private individual but found joy in listening to music, a pastime that provided him comfort and enjoyment throughout his life.
Jesse is survived by his sister, Terry Ann Thomas, as well as his beloved nephews, Brandon Ross Smith and Ryan Devone Thomas. He is also mourned by many extended family members and friends who appreciated his kind spirit and gentle demeanor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Terry Reginald Smith and Judy Ann Smith, who instilled in him the values of hard work and kindness that he carried throughout his life.
A memorial service to honor Jesse’s life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Sweeten Creek Baptist Church, located at 11 Busbee View Rd, Asheville, NC 28803. The service will begin at 6:00 PM and will provide an opportunity for friends and family to come together to celebrate his life and share their memories. Following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.
Jesse Allen Smith will be remembered not only for his professional contributions but also for his caring nature and the warmth he brought to the lives of those around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
