Jessie Lanita (Walker) Alexander, 85 years of age, was received into Heaven on February 22, 2025, in Jena, Louisiana. She was born in the Nebo Community of Jena, Louisiana, on Tuesday, January 23, 1940, to Monroe Dewey Walker and Ellen B. (Brown) Walker.
Jessie was a lady of many talents. She was an Office Manager for the late Dr. Ken Mathis for 25 years and helped run his many businesses. Jessie and her husband Jackie lead the youth group at Apostolic Temple for 26 years sometimes having as many as 100 young people. Jessie was a Sunday School teacher for over 57 years and is well known for her animated storytelling and work in children's ministries. She was talented in making crafts and creative projects. A top-notch cook and master at making red velvet cakes and chocolate candies. Most importantly she was known for her fervent praying, she could usher you in the presence of Jesus quickly and it seemed you could hear angel's wings surrounding you. The one thing she asked to be remembered for is, "She Prayed."
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Linus Walker, Tilford Walker, Neva Francis, Era Mae Walker, Grady Walker, Oretha Coon, Gove Walker, Shelby Walker, Cleta Kolwaski, Elinour Glen Walker, and Dewey Walker.
Those left to love and cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years, Jackie Lee Alexander; two sons, Darrell Lee Alexander and wife MeloDee of Riceville, TN, and Joel Glen Alexander and wife Denise of Humble, TX., a sister Norma "Sis" Deville, five grandchildren, Derek Alexander, Daniel Alexander, Calah Smith and husband Trent, Kyle Hicks, Kaitlyn Burgess and husband Kameron, five great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of the Sharptown Community, south of Jena.
Funeral Services will be held at the Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church at 1:00 PM with Rev. Pat Phillips and Rev. Trent Smith officiating.
Those honored to serve Mrs. Jessie and her family as pallbearers are Trent Smith, Terry Long, Kyle Hicks, Kameron Burgess, Darrell Alexander, and Joel Alexander.
Mrs. Jessie will be laid to rest in the Nebo Cemetery following the services, under the direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home.
