Mr. Jessie Donald “Donnie” Gardner, age 74, of Douglas, GA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 07,1951 in Albany, GA, to the late Virginia (Horton) Newmans and the late RL Newmans; raised all his life in Willacoochee, GA. He lived in Douglas, GA for the past 30 years.
Donnie was a man of the outdoors. He found joy in God’s creation—whether he was hunting, fishing, shooting, or practicing archery. The woods were where he felt most at home and he loved sharing those passions with friends and family.
A man of incredible work ethic and determination, Donnie dedicated his career to the dental service industry. Through his own company, DDS Equipment, he built a company of excellence, honesty, and dedication. He took pride in his work and in serving others with the same commitment he showed in every part of his life.
Above all, Donnie loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. His love for them was evident to all he encountered. He was a wonderful “Papa Bear” and will be greatly missed by his family.
In his final months, Donnie experienced the greatest joy of all—coming to a surrendered life in Christ Jesus. He was baptized just three days before he went to heaven, leaving behind a powerful testimony of grace, redemption, and hope.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife, Rose Gardner of Douglas, GA; his children, Don Gardner (Jenna) of Millwood, GA, Brandi Simmons (Chad) of Pensacola, FL and Laci Taylor (Blake) of Valdosta, GA; his cherished grandchildren, McKade and Annley Gardner, Sam, Jake, Tinley Taylor and Baby Taylor #4 due in February; his brother, Ricky Newmans (Aletha) of Willacoochee, GA, his sister, Bonnie Jernigan (Phil) of Douglas, GA, and many dear friends and extended family who will miss him tremendously. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jesse Cole Gardner, brother Bobby Flowers and sister Agnes Woods.
A celebration of Donnie’s life was held graveside on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Willacoochee City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Lloyd officiating. Words were given by Blake Taylor, Don Gardner and Rose Gardner. Special music included “10,000 Reasons”, “Amazing Grace”, “Love Without End, Amen”, and “Jesus, Strong and Kind” presented by cd. Pallbearers included: Ricky, Shane and Cam Newmans, Brian Stone, Jared Swain, Jason McGovern, and Mike Elledge. Arrangements were handled by Relihan Funeral Home of Pearson, GA.
Donnie’s legacy of faith, hard work, and love will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
