It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Hicks (Pappy), a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran who honorably served during the Vietnam War. He passed away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 79. Jessie lived a life ofadventure and resilience and will forever be remembered by all who knew him.

After his military service, Jessie worked as a supervisor at Link Belt for fifteen years and then retired to start his own businesses. He was a dreamer, a teacher, and a true jack of all trades. He employed many young men and taught them the skills of trade work. He was the kind of person who'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

A lover of warm weather, Jessie spent many years in Florida surrounded by the ocean and sunshine. He returned home to Indiana in 2004 to be closer to his children. His passion for life, his kindness, and his sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his three beloved children, Amy Planker, Stephanie Kachur, and his best friend, Stephen Hicks. His legacy lives on in his eight grandchildren: Annie, Paul, Lucy, Schuyler, Mae, Bryn, PJ, and Piper, as well as his great-grandson, Brooks.

Jessie leaves behind a life rich in love and memories. His family, friends, and all who knew him will miss him deeply, but they will also carry with them the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the generosity he showed.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 13 from 6-8pm at the Brownsburg Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Helping Veterans And Families (HVAF) hvafofindiana.

Rest in peace, Jessie. Your service, your love, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
