Jessie C. Mathews, 93, of Bicknell, IN, passed away Monday September 22, 2025. Jessie was born September 8, 1932 in Emison, IN, the son of John L. Mathews and Bernice Ingersoll Helderman. He was raised by his grandparents, Jesse and Daisy Miller Ingersoll. Jessie was a graduate of Bruceville High School and he served his country for over 20 years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He attained the rank of Tech Sgt Rtd working in the motor pool as a diesel mechanic. After his service, he worked for TLT/Gilliat and Thomas Trucking in the service department as a diesel mechanic until his retirement after over 20 years. Jessie was an active member of Bicknell Methodist Church serving in various capacities, the VFW, French Club and Eagles. On June 15, 1968, he married Laura Forbes and they made their life together for nearly 57 years until Laura's death on February 28, 2025.

Jesse is survived by children, Robert "Bob" Getchell, Ralph (Debbie) Getchell, Jeanne (Dewayne) Hoffman, and Janet (Michael) Deuber and a son in law, Arthur Pahmeier. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

Jessie was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years, Laura Mathews, 2 children, Diane Getchell Pahmeier, Jessie Mathews. His parents and a brother, Robert Helderman.

Funeral services will be celebrated Monday September 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bicknell Methodist Church with Pastor Kegan Thomas officiating. Jessie will be laid to rest in Bicknell Memorial Mausoleum next to Laura. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of services at Bicknell Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in his memory are requested to the Bicknell Methodist Church. Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw is honored to assist Jessie's family during their time of loss.
