Jessie Jean Parker McKinney, age 66, went to be home with the Lord on Wednesday, July 23rd 2025, after her long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 4th 1958 in Mitchell County, Jessie was the daughter of the late Louis and Betty Sue Parker. In addition to her parents, Jessie is preceded in death by her brother, Charlie Parker.
Jessie was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. She worked many years at American Thread and Mitchell County Schools as a lunch lady. She was a graduate of Bowman High School. Jessie was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always cooking a meal, traveling to a sporting event, or spending time with her family.
Jessie was a pillar in our community and active in her church. Jessie's beautiful voice could be heard over almost anyone. Her dedication to the Lord was remarkable; if you had never heard of his goodness before speaking with Jessie, you would've when she was done. Jessie loved to garden, cook, and shop with her sisters and friends. Jessie was a caregiver at heart and her love language was a meal. Her most prized possession was her family.
Surviving is her loving husband of 42 years, Dennis McKinney; Sons Cody (Megan) and Jody (Brittany); Grandchildren Rindie, Chloe (Carter), Mason, Parker, Addy, Denver, Mac, and Reese; Sisters Alice, Mary (Keith), Candy (Greg); Brothers Eddie (Shirley) and Shane (Jenny); Honorary Brother Jerry Griffith; Best Friends Donna Brewer and Lois Woody; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday July 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Roan Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Private family burial at Roan Mountain Cemetery will follow.
Pallbearers include Shane Parker, Blake Parker, Tony Parker, Brandon Ledford, Micki Ledford, Carter Hoyle, and Mason McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers are the grandchildren Denver McKinney, Mac McKinney, and Reese McKinney.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideons International Ministry. If you attend her service, the family ask you to wear bright colors to honor her beautiful legacy. Jessie was very fond of yellow.
The family would like to send special thanks to the Blue Ridge Hospice for their care of Jessie.
