Jessie Torres Sr. 82, of Pinellas Park, Florida, formerly of Port Huron, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 after a short illness, surrounded by his family at St. Anthony's Hospital, Florida.
He was born July 30, 1935 in Capac to the late Joseph and Maria Torres. He married Francisca Cardenas in 1957 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends last July.
Jessie was the youngest of 14 children and spent his childhood on the family farm. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19 and served proudly for four years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Edward J. McCormick Council #521, the Largo Moose Lodge #2205 in Florida, the Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge #343, American Legion Charles Hammond Post No. 8, and the Men's Catholic League and did endless volunteer work for the church and community. He was a devout Catholic with unwavering faith and was a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Michigan and Sacred Heart Church in Florida. Above all, he loved God and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Francisca; four sons, Jessie (Sandra) Torres, Joseph (Kristen) Torres, Paul Torres and Mateo (Marcy) Torres; five grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan) Stachler, Jennifer (Dan) Gilbert, Mariah, Baily and Luisa Torres; two great grandchildren, Logan and Lucy Stachler; his sister, Lucy T. Rico; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Torres.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. Torres will lie in state in Holy Trinity Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Very Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo, K.H.S. will officiate.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, Port Huron.
