Jewel Gleason Obituary

JEWEL L. GLEASON Jewel L. Gleason, age 63, passed away November 9, 2024, in Kansas City, Kansas after a brief but intense battle with cancer. Jewel was born June 24, 1961, in Council Grove, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jim and Janice (Smith) White. Her family moved to Ottawa, Kansas when she was four years old, and she attended school in Ottawa, graduating with the class of 1979. Jewel chose nursing as her profession and attended the Manhattan Area Technical School. She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse for more than forty years. She is currently employed at the University of Kansas Medical Center West. Jewel married Terry Gleason of Alta Vista, Kansas, and they had two children, Beth Ann Gleason Guillen, and James Robert Gleason. Her daughter, Beth, followed her into the nursing profession. Later she had two grandchildren, Kaylen and Bryce Guillen. She made many trips to Florida to visit her family there and spoil her grandchildren whom she treasured so much. Jewel enjoyed cats, music concerts, the Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She enjoyed many of these events with her son, James, including attending the Monday, November 4, 2024 Chiefs game. She is survived by her children; Beth Guillen (Dan) of Ellenton, Florida, and James Gleason of Kansas City, Kansas, and her grandchildren, Kaylen and Bryce Guillen of Ellenton, Florida. She is also survived by her parents, Jim White of Olathe, and Janice Swallow of Baldwin City, her brother Gene White (Becky), half-sister, Lori White, and a special step-sister, Patricia (Rick) McAninch. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Mayme White and Bob and Olive Smith, her uncles Tom and Weldon White, her aunt Dolly White, and a baby sister, Memory Beth White. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cat Depot, 2542 17th Street, Sarasota, Florida 34234
