Jewel Otis Loud Sr., fondly known as Chief to his coworkers, Big Red to his friends, and simply Otis to his doting family, passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on August 30, 1941, in Anderson, Texas. Jewel was a loving, generous, dedicated, and reliable pillar of strength to everyone that knew him. In his professional life, he was an engineering tech in the manufacturing industry. After retirement, he resided in Cedar Park, Texas, having previously lived in Dallas and Galveston.
Jewel was a dedicated family man. Married to the love of his life, Dorothy Loud, together they built a family that cherished and revered him. Jewel was a devoted father to Jewel Jr., Cletis, and Jaree. He was also the proud grandfather of Charde, Tatjana, Britney, Jasmine, Tiffany, Sydney, Talea, Aaliyah, Tabita, and Jewel III; as well as the older brother to Jean Loud-Whitaker and Shirley Freeman. Jewel's generous spirit shone brightest when he was spending time with his grandchildren. It was his greatest joy to pick them up from school, take his great-grandson, Avery, for haircuts, and his great-granddaughter, Lyric, for after-school slurpees. His fond nickname for his grandchildren was 'kiddo', a term filled with affection and warmth.
In accordance with Jewel's Methodist faith, we find comfort in the verse from Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Jewel was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Josephine Loud, his brother-in-law John Freeman, and his great-nephew, Quincy Jones. Despite their loss, the family finds solace knowing Jewel's legacy of love, generosity, and dedication lives on in each of them.
We invite those who knew Jewel to share memories, stories, and photos on his memorial page. This is a place to remember Jewel as he was - a man full of love, who gave generously, and was dedicated to his family. We encourage you to upload photos and leave your memories of Jewel Otis Loud Sr., to keep his memory alive in our hearts.
