Jill Annette Wagner, 69, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, Ohio, following a period of declining health. Born June 21, 1956 in Dennison, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Robert Leroy and Patricia Lou (Smith) Hasseman.
Jill was a 1974 graduate of Claymont High School before earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Ashland University. She began her 42-year career as an educator at Norwalk City School District where she taught for 5 years, followed by teaching English Language Arts for Claymont Public Schools’ middle school where she was in her 38th year with her retirement planned for 2026. She was a highly honored educator, having been named the 2018 Twin City Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, the 2023 CORAS – Coalition of Rural and Appalachia Schools – Teacher of the Year, and the 2024 Claymont Foundation Teacher of the Year.
On September 2, 1978, Jill married the love of her life, Robert John “Bob” Wagner with whom she shared over 31 years of marriage and the blessing of raising a family together before his passing on March 22, 2010. Jill and Bob shared a profound love, and she mourned him from the day he died until she was reunited with him on Wednesday. They are survived by their daughters, Sarah (Lee) Ledford and Lauren (Shane) Anderson, and their grandchildren, Tori, Danika, Brier and Jax Ledford, and Sage and Wyatt Anderson. Jill is also survived by her siblings, Rod (Chris), Bob (Debbie), Jan, Jim (Kathy, deceased), and Steve (Shelly) Hasseman, and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind innumerable dear friends, co-workers, students, and former students whose lives she impacted throughout her career, as well.
Jill was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher who deeply cherished the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for vacations, and was looking forward to her favorite time of year – the Christmas season. She loved everything about Christmas and always made a point of going to Warther’s Annual Christmas Tree Festival which was a highlight of her year. She was a longtime member of First Moravian Church of Uhrichsville.
Pastor David Geyer will officiate a 12:00 p.m. service on Saturday, November 29, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where her family will receive callers from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
