Jim Ferguson

A Celebration of the Life of Jim Ferguson, age 76, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Salt Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 25, from 6:00 until 8:00. Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jim passed from this life on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. James Norris Ferguson was born in Brownwood on September 15, 1948, to Edwin and Dorothy Ferguson. Jim attended Brownwood schools and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1967. Jim attended East Texas State University and Howard Payne College for a year. He went on to serve his country is the Army in the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of SP-5 and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Following Vietnam, Jim returned to Brownwood and went to work for Superior Cable where he had a 46-year career, before retiring in 2014 as a Scheduling Supervisor. Jim married the love of his life, Vicki Jo Allen on June 3, 1995. Together they built three houses and remodeled another one in their 30 years of marriage. Jim coached summer league baseball for 13 years for the 11-12-year-old Senators baseball team. He also coached the Astros in 1995, to win the state championship that year. Jim also loved yard work and always had the best-looking yard on the block. He grew up in the Central United Methodist Church and was a member of Salt Creek Baptist Church. Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vicki Ferguson of Brownwood; three daughters, Neely Ray and husband Kevin of Brownwood, Lisa Ferguson of Austin, and Jennifer Aaron and husband Tony of Early; five grandchildren, Kennedy Burnett of Minnesota, Kamrey Windham, Aubrey Felux, Haven Aaron, Brenna Gist; two sisters Pat Johle and husband Roger of Harker Heights and Betty Garner and husband Britt of Abilene; sister-in-law Donna Tyson and husband Kelly of Early, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Dorothy Ferguson, son, Chris Dutton, a sister, Jean Rich, niece Brandi Tyson, nephew, Shane Early, and his in-laws, Dewitt and Bobbie Allen.
