Jimmie was a very large part of our life. My parents owned vern's market. Jimmy cricket is what my mother nicknamed Jimmie was at the store every day? Having coffee with all of the other farmers, he watched me grow up. I remember getting a graduation gift from him. And he also attended my first wedding. He was a very gracious and loving man. Our family will truly miss you.

Sandie's family - The Matthiesens - owned Vern's Market and Jimmie was a regular there, as were the majority of the farmers on the Oregon Slope. We always went out to Jimmie's to get potatoes in the fall. Jimmie would come out to the field and fire up his tractor and dig up a section of a row - always plenty to fill a couple of bags to share with our family. It became a tradition for us and when we moved to Seattle we learned that Jimmie loved Salmon - so when we came home we'd always take him a fresh salmon in exchange for his pototoes. And then of course, he'd want to make sure we'd go come with one of his delicious apple pies. We have so many fond memories of taking our son to Jimmies and then later 2 of our oldest grand-daughters along to help bag up some of Jimmie's red spuds. Sandie loved serving Jimmie coffee in the cafe and the beautiful gladiolas he'd bring to Kay & Blaine at Vern's. His nickname was Jiminy Cricket and he loved it. He always had a smile and we'll always remember his kindness. He was a friend to the entire community and he will be missed!

Jimmy was a wonderful neighbor to our family for many years. He was always there to help ,but you could never reciprocate because he was always ahead. Anytime we took over goodies he was at our door the next day with a pie or candy for the kids. He will be greatly missed.
