James E. Peterson
1943-2025
Cameron, Missouri- James Edward Peterson, 81, passed away July 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born November 15, 1943 in Columbia, Missouri to Edward and Lena (Reifsteck) Mahan.
James received a Master's Degree in Political Science at UMKC and worked in financial services throughout his life, working for the city of Kansas City and University of Arkansas with student financial aid.
Jim was fond of fishing and played soccer, baseball and pickleball. Jim and Sue enjoyed traveling with their family. He was active in volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, United Way, and the food pantry at Schweitzer Church in Springfield, Missouri. Jim was involved in the cleanup of Joplin following the devastating tornado.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Frank (Reifsteck) Peterson.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; children, Lisa (Mark) Walker, Columbia, Maryland, Todd (Dannette) Peterson, Trenton, Missouri, Michael Peterson, Kansas City, Renee (D) Ortiz, Jamesport, Missouri; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Judy, Hattie, and Kandi; brothers, Mickey, and Shad; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at Ozark Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
In family requests no flowers or plants please. Memorials may be given to the Cameron Missouri Veteran's Home Assistant League. Cameron Veterans Home, 1111 Euclid Ave., Cameron, MO. 64429
