Jimmie Johnson, born June 17, 1933, in Flora, Louisiana, to the late Willie Johnson Sr. and Mary Lee Edwards Johnson.
Jimmie moved to
Beaumont, Texas, in 1943 at the age of nine. He quickly adapted to his new home and began attending the Beaumont public school system, where he excelled academically and completed his studies at just 17 years old from Charlton Pollard High School. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor and dedication until his honorable discharge on April 23, 1956.
Upon returning to Beaumont, Jimmie entered the workforce and spent many years in the construction industry. During this time, he met the love of his life, Alba Sias, and the two were united in marriage on February 12, 1971. His career later led him to Houston, Texas, where he continued working in construction and became an active and devoted member of his motorcycle club. Jimmie cherished his years in Houston and often reminisced about the friendships and experiences he gained there.
Despite his love for Houston, Jimmie's deep devotion to his mother and immediate family eventually brought him back home to Beaumont. There, he continued his hardworking legacy as a Longshoreman at the Port of Beaumont until his retirement. Jimmie was also known for his passion for photography-rarely attending a family gathering or special event without capturing the moment behind his camera.
Faith was the foundation of Jimmie's life. He first joined Sunlight Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend G.W. Daniels. Later, he became a dedicated and faithful member-and eventually a deacon-at Greater Grace Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Curtis Gene Johnson. Jimmie loved his pastor, his church family, and the fellowship he found there. He often engaged his loved ones in thoughtful conversations about biblical teachings. Sundays were especially meaningful to him: after church, he delighted in visiting and sharing long conversations with his sister, Frances Keil.
Jimmie leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and cherished memories. He is survived by his sisters Frances Keil and Immogene Schexnayder of
Beaumont, Texas, and Rosetta Wilhite of Dallas, Texas; Tammy Beloney and Lesly "Buddy" Beloney, whom he lovingly referred to as his children; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alba Johnson; his parents, Willie Johnson Sr. and Mary ; and his brothers, Willie Johnson, Jr. and Sam Johnson.
Jimmie Johnson lived a life marked by devotion-to his family, his faith, his work, and his community. His presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
