Troy- Jimmie L. Major, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Ceaser and Martha Major. Jimmie was the devoted husband to the late Rosanne Miles Major. They were married 18 years.
After graduating from high school, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army where he served faithfully until his honorable discharge. He went on to work as a Long Distance Truck Driver, first with Albany Public Markets, then Cohoes Manufacture, as well as Tagson Paper, retiring from Crowley to take care of his sick wife, Rosanne.
Jimmy happily served as a Jehovah's Witness where he was a ministerial servant happily for many years, whatever you needed from him he was there to help with a smile.
When Jimmie wasn't out doing preaching work, he was spending time with his second love, his garden. He was a avid gardener who cherished caring for his flowers and vegetables. He was passionate about his yard and his cars. Most of all, Jimmie loved his family.
Jimmie will be deeply missed and mourned by those he is survived by including his daughters, Saprena Major and Salena Hankins; grandchildren, Devonne, Zyaire, Acharu, and Dyanni; great grandchildren, Devonne Jr., Ja'harie, and Acharù-Janet; his brother, James (Mary) Major; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be deeply missed by all those who he loved and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jimmie was predeceased by his first wife of over 20 years, Janette NeSmith Major; and his siblings, Jacob, Derry, Caesar, Herbert, Handsome, Idamae, Ernestine, and Genevieve.
A calling hour will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, New York on Monday July 14, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a Time of Sharing to begin at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Hill Cemetery.
